A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a maroon cross bearing a silver unicorns head jagged at the neck and horn extending over the cross, the head between six silver discs one above and below and two on each side, all in front of silver rays issuing between the arms of the cross and extending to a two-part silver scroll arched across the tip arm and inscribed THE UTMOST and across the bottom FOR THE BEST in maroon letters.
Maroon and white (silver) are colors used for the Army Medical Corps. The six silver discs commemorate the Battalions campaign awards for service in Europe, World War II and occupation of Germany. The cross, a symbol for support, together with the rays, allude to the supply and organizational maintenance support provided by the unit. The swiftness and wisdom attributed to the mythical unicorn in conjunction with the curative powers of its horn connote the organizations alert command, control and planning in performance of its medical mission.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 21 February 1967.
